Bloomers Win State-wide Award |
|
Each year the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society investigates and celebrates community landscapes and gardens in the tri-state area and acknowledges the efforts of those who keep them beautiful. The award given is based on plant variety, design, use of space and horticultural practices. Among the sites chosen this year was the Sister Regina Kelly Memorial Garden at Misericordia University. The garden features plants mentioned in Shakespeare’s works and is a setting for study, rest and restoration of spirit. The garden has been adopted by the Back Mountain Bloomers Garden Club as their community project. The Bloomers tend the garden from April to November to keep the garden in perfect order for the enjoyment of the university and the community at large. Drew Becher, president of The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society presented the award to representatives of the Back Mountain Bloomers and Misericordia University at the Society headquarters in Philadelphia. The representatives from the Sister Regina Kelly Garden were also among those who were honored at a reception at the Governor's Residence in December hosted by Pennsylvania's First Lady, Mrs. Susan Corbett, to pay tribute to community efforts to keep
Pennsylvania beautiful.
